Tuesday, I finally found a Firewire cable in Bangkok 2 days before my friend Simon received the one I ordered online. Thursday night in my new air conditioned room I started to captured all the footage I had taken so far. Friday and Saturday I was suffering in bed due to an unknown virus… I will spare you the details. Saturday night I was feeling better, so I began editing. Today, I took a long tail boat to Ao Nang in order to find a reliable internet connection. One that does not interrupt every 5 minutes and where I could upload my video in less then 5 days. I’ve been sitting in a Starbucks sipping a latte since noon and after 5 hours and 23 minutes I am glade the report that my video upload is completed. Unless the file is corrupted you will be able to see my short entitled Colors & Flavors this Wednesday at Bar La Quincaillerie for the 7th Urler.tv night. See details here.

Hope you have the chance to go and if you do please give me your impressions by commenting on this post. I’ve been spending to much time in front of my computer these past 2 weeks so I will unplug for a few days. It’s time to enjoy the beach and do some camping ;)

Why I won’t take part in the next urler.tv?

With the firm intention to capture my adventures on tape or even do a few shorts, 2 weeks before I left montreal I bought myself a brand new Canon HV30. I had my eye on the Canon 5D Mark II but it was back ordered and maybe overkill for a newly self proclaim indie filmmaker. I went to L.L. Lozeau and bought the perfect starter kit: 1 camera, 1 tripod, 1 microphone, 3 60 min HDV tapes, 1 extra battery and a nice backpack to carry it all. I was all ready to shoot.

Fo my first project I chose to get involve with urler.tv. In november Vero had ask me to participate for the 7th episode scheduled to lunch sometime in February. The subject is epicure.

After only 4 days in Bangkok I had 2 hours of footage on the subject. I love my new toy! I was gung-ho to begin editing, but there was one little problem. My starter kit did not include a firewire 800 cable to connect to my new Macbook Pro. I must have spent more then 7 hours in Bangkok and at least 4 hours in Chiang Mai looking for my @!#?% cable. Turns out Firewire 800 as not arrive in Thailand yet. But no one knew that because they kept sending me from one place to another. In Thai society there is this emphasis on maintaining the facade of perfection. If you ask a Thai person to give you direction and he doesn’t have a clue he will still point you in one direction with a big smile on his face. They simply can not loose face.

Finally I ordered the cable online 2 days ago and had it shipped to my friend Simon’s place up in Chiang Mai. All that to say that I will probably not be able to make the deadline for urler.tv.
